● History: Started during WWI as a way for wives of Rotarians to offer solidarity and service, officially forming in 1924.
The Walnut Creek chapter is please to have selected their newest receipt, Love a Child Mission, a 75 bed shelter for women and children in Baypoint. Established 40 years ago, their value to the community is clearly demonstrated by being one of the first shelters contacted by the County for emergency needs. When a woman is selected to join the program, they live at the shelter for a year so they can have long term support before moving ahead in their and their children’s lives. On site are AA and NA meetings, parent/pregnancy education and support, personal growth classes, as we as legal/court assistance, children’s education support, recreational activities, and help with transporta- tion to work and school.
